SDP delegation to attend conference in Sri Lanka

Singapore Democrats Ling How Doong, Francis Yong, Chee Soon Juan, Wong Hong Toy, Gandhi Ambalam, Fernus Lim, and Christopher Neo will attend the annual conference of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 29-31 May 2003.

The SDP is a member of CALD which is made up of eight liberal democratic parties from across Asia including the Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Singapore.

Entitled "Wealth creation and sustainable development: A liberal democratic agenda", the conference will be the biggest in a long series of conferences organised by CALD, attracting more than 100 participants from all over Asia and Europe.

Dr Chee Soon Juan will speak at a Southeast Asia Seminar to be held at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies in Colombo on "The problems of making democracy work for the poor in Singapore."
